Work on the Congress Avenue redesign project is progressing steadily through downtown Austin. Crews recently completed most of the block between Cesar Chavez Street and Second Street, leaving only final touches like landscaping. As of mid-September, work shifted to the west side of the 200 block between Second and Third streets, with that segment slated to finish by the end of the month before moving to the 300 block.
I-35 Rebuild Continues
The Texas Department of Transportation is advancing its multibillion-dollar I-35 Capital Express projects, which include new high-occupancy vehicle lanes across multiple sections. The central portion from U.S. 290 East through downtown to Ben White Boulevard is the most expensive at about $4.5 billion. Drivers have expressed mixed views on the HOV lanes, with one noting the need for traffic relief.

Oak Hill Parkway Nears Finish
The Oak Hill Parkway project on U.S. Highway 290 has reached substantial completion after four years of work. TxDOT crews are now handling remaining tasks such as landscaping through the end of the year. This marks a significant milestone for southwest area roadways.
These updates reflect active construction phases across major corridors. Phase one of the Congress Avenue project, spanning from Cesar Chavez Street to Seventh Street, is expected to conclude by summer 2027 overall.
