Roadway improvements are underway on portions of St. Francis Drive and Cerrillos Road as part of a collaboration between the New Mexico Department of Transportation District 5 and the City of Santa Fe Public Works Department’s Complete Streets Division. Construction, handled by contractor Cutler Repaving, Inc., began in mid-September and is anticipated to continue through mid-October, with all work occurring overnight between 9:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m.[1]

Flooding Impacts Repairs

Heavy rainstorms earlier in the period led to damage on multiple Santa Fe County roads, resulting in closures and the need for repairs. County crews have been grading and addressing issues on routes such as County Road 84 and Cañada Village Road, while some private roads remain impassible.[2] “It’s a private road so we have to come up with the funds to repair this huge crevice,” resident Jeanna Gienke said. Commissioner Justin Greene noted that as roads dry out, grading continues and designs are underway for more sustainable fixes on heavily damaged sections.[2]

Interstate Maintenance

Work on Interstate 25 continues, including a one-day closure of the southbound ramp from U.S. 285 north of Eldorado on October 8 for repaving the driving lane, with detours via Old Las Vegas Highway.[3]

Separately, voters will consider general obligation bonds in the November election that include $14 million for roads, such as the San Ysidro all-weather crossing and paving and drainage projects to improve resilience.[4]
