The Durango City Hall and Police Department project advanced in October with the release of updated renderings and the start of construction activities. The plan features a renovated historic high school for City Hall functions alongside a new police station building.

Project Mobilization

Contractor mobilization occurred on October 19, including setup of trailers, tree protection, and site fencing. Selective demolition of non-historic structures, such as the north pool room and boiler room, was scheduled to begin toward the end of the month or in early November.

The overall construction budget stands at $61.2 million, with current estimates reported as $112,000 under budget. Primary construction access is routed from 14th Street through East Second Avenue, while Buckley Park remains open to the public.

Next Steps

An official groundbreaking is planned for December 17, pending the outcome of related litigation. The project continues to incorporate community input on design elements, including adjustments to fencing and parking features.
