Major infrastructure upgrades are progressing on several key routes, with the Colorado Department of Transportation leading resurfacing efforts on US Highway 160 from Elmore's Corner at Colorado Highway 172 to the Durango High Bridge north of Walmart. The six-mile project, which began on March 23, includes curb reconstruction, bridge deck repairs, new guardrails, signage, striping, and ADA-compliant pedestrian ramps at intersections including Dominguez Drive, River Road, Three Springs Boulevard, and Elmore's Corner. Primarily nighttime operations from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. Sunday through Friday have implemented 24/7 lane closures, shifts, and shoulder restrictions, resulting in delays of up to 15 minutes and a reduced speed limit of 45 mph.[1][2]

“Work will begin with curb reconstruction work on the east end of the project area at Elmore’s Corner,” a CDOT spokesperson said, noting that “the project will be completed with deck repairs and resurfacing of the High Bridge.”

Wilson Gulch Drive remains closed from the roundabout at Confluence Avenue to Prospector Avenue (East) for extensive reconstruction, converting the gravel section into a two-lane paved roadway with a raised median and new utility extensions to the Spur Line Trailhead. The closure, in place since March 18, is expected to last through November to support development ahead of a new elementary school in Three Springs.[1][3]

Spring construction has resumed on College Drive from East 3rd Avenue to East 8th Avenue and East 8th Avenue from College Drive to East 2nd Street, involving milling, overlay, and reconfiguration from four to three lanes. Atmos Energy is also replacing natural gas lines along Clovis Drive and Arroyo Drive toward Delwood Avenue and Columbine Drive, with phased lane closures anticipated through July 10.[1]

A full closure of County Road 251 from Holly Avenue to County Road 250 is set for April 6 to accommodate trenching and asphalt milling as part of broader county road improvements.[1] These projects signal sustained activity through the summer, with motorists advised to check CoTrip.org and the city's Orange Cone Report for real-time updates on delays and detours.
