Construction has begun on a new federal courthouse funded by a $70 million federal investment. The 50,000-square-foot facility is located off Route 66 and is expected to open in March 2027.

The building will provide full-service federal court access for northern Arizona residents, reducing travel times previously required to Phoenix. It includes a Level 3 security rating with separate entrances for judges, the public, and defendants, along with perimeter fencing, cameras, and 24/7 U.S. Marshals protection.
Mark Bauer, executive vice president of Easterly Government Properties overseeing the build, noted the facility's role in serving residents across rural areas, including those on reservations. “We’re talking about potential jurors,” Bauer said. “We’re talking about people that are relying on the federal court system for justice.”[1]
The interior design will incorporate Native American architecture and elements reflecting the local community. “We have great pride in what we’re doing here and how it’s going to fit into the community,” Bauer said.[1]
