A major new shipyard project has been announced for a site in the Port of Brownsville. Saronic Technologies selected an 835-acre location for its Port Alpha facility, valued at $3.2 billion.

The development focuses on manufacturing medium and large autonomous warships. Construction is set to begin in 2026, with initial operations targeted for 2028.

The project is projected to create up to 10,000 direct jobs over the next decade. These opportunities span skilled trades including welding, machining, and fabrication, as well as roles in robotics, software engineering, advanced manufacturing, and naval architecture.

Project Scale and Timeline

The facility will have capacity to build ships up to 850 feet in length. Local government approvals, including tax incentives, have supported the site's selection.

Details on the announcement were reported in mid-July 2026.[1]
