Youth and adult sports programs commenced in Durango during the first week of June. Dream League Softball began on June 1, while flag football for ages 3/4 and 5/6 started on June 2. BMX summer camps and skateboarding lessons also initiated around this time, with a free BMX race held on June 5 for National BMX Day.[1]

Weekly Rodeo Events

The True Western Roundup, a PRCA rodeo formerly known as the True West Rodeo, occurs on Wednesday evenings at the La Plata County Fairgrounds. Performances took place on June 3 and June 10, featuring western heritage activities in a family-friendly setting.[2]

Additional events included the Steamworks Half Marathon on June 6 in the San Juan Mountains and the Durango Danger Invitational youth softball tournament from June 5 to 7 at Fort Lewis College. The 4-Corners Rough Stock Challenge occurred on June 6 at the fairgrounds, and the Women’s Resource Center Inaugural Charity Golf Open is set for June 11 at the Glacier Club.[3]

Group rides organized by Purg Sports and other activities such as dart tournaments continue to provide regular opportunities for participation. These events align with the start of summer programming offered through local parks and recreation departments.[4]

Organizers maintain calendars listing these activities to support consistent community engagement throughout the month. Professional approaches to scheduling recurring events can help maintain steady participation levels during transitional periods.
