May 2026 featured several instances of late-season snow in the mountains surrounding Pagosa Springs. A notable storm system from May 5-6 delivered several inches of snow at higher elevations, with reports of around 5 inches at Wolf Creek Pass and potentially more at the ski area site.
Additional moisture arrived around May 6-8, with estimates of 6-8 inches in the Wolf Creek Pass area. A cold front in mid-May brought the possibility of 1-3 inches of snow on the pass by May 17.
Resort Season Ends Early
The Wolf Creek Ski Area concluded its 2025-2026 season on April 5 after recording a total of 192 inches of snowfall for the year. The resort maintained 100 percent terrain open until closing.
Avalanche danger remained low statewide in late May, with generally safe conditions reported despite lingering mountain snow.
