The City of Paso Robles announced that after months of preparation, the Recycled Water Distribution System project is ready for bidding and construction.[1] This infrastructure initiative includes construction of a pump station, 3.3 miles of pipeline, and a 900,000-gallon storage tank to deliver tertiary-quality recycled water for irrigating parks, golf courses, and vineyards in east Paso Robles.

Funding for the project comprises $13.2 million in grants from the State of California along with low-interest financing, repayable over 30 years through future recycled water sales.[2] A major pipeline segment under the Salinas River was completed in 2023, with the remaining distribution system targeted for operational status by late 2026. The announcement marks a key step toward reducing reliance on groundwater from the Paso Robles Groundwater Basin.

Spaceport License Progress

On May 5, the city highlighted advancement in the FAA Commercial Spaceport License process for the Paso Robles Municipal Airport.[3] Following a March council directive, staff are preparing a Request for Proposals to complete the license application, positioning the airport's 1,300 acres for aerospace activities including a renovated propulsion test site used by companies and Cal Poly students.

The spaceport and technology corridor effort seeks to diversify the economy by attracting aerospace, advanced manufacturing, and technical trades, creating new jobs and workforce pathways through partnerships with local schools and colleges.[3] As bidding opens for the recycled water project and spaceport proposals are solicited, these developments signal upcoming construction phases and professional opportunities in engineering, construction, and high-tech sectors.
