Durango High School's spring sports programs have started the season with notable successes. The boys track and field team captured first place at the Abel Velasquez Invitational, tallying 151.5 points. Standout performances included senior Grant Gordon's pole vault win at 13 feet, alongside victories in the 1600-meter run by Miles Snow and the 300-meter hurdles by Rashad Reece.1

Impressive Girls Performances

The DHS girls track team dominated the Mickey Dunn Invitational in Grand Junction, scoring 138 points and breaking the school record in the 4x100-meter relay with a time of 50.15 seconds. Coach Johnny Bertrand praised the relay team, stating, "We told them before that you girls can break this record today." The girls soccer team improved to 3-1 overall with wins over Montrose (2-1) and Palisade (3-0), while the girls golf team swept two tournaments, including the Battle at The Bridges.2

Fort Lewis College Skyhawks are gearing up for home competitions, including softball doubleheaders against New Mexico Highlands and women's lacrosse matches against Regis University and UCCS. The cycling team will host the Squawker Classic over the weekend, drawing competitors to local trails.3

Youth sports are also active, with Durango Parks and Recreation reporting practices underway for lacrosse and soccer leagues. Registration remains open, and April features volleyball and flag football clinics to build skills ahead of summer seasons.4

Durango Youth Baseball and Softball will host the Pitch Hit & Run competition on April 24-25 at Alpine Bank Field, open to ages 7-12 for free skills testing.5

These developments signal sustained community engagement through May, with DHS home baseball games, continued FLC events, and youth tournaments poised to maintain momentum into the peak season.
