Construction in Seattle's West Seattle area is progressing, with the new Alki Elementary School at 3010 59th SW described as the region's biggest ongoing project. Recent updates indicate it is months away from completion and is scheduled to open for the 2026-2027 school year. Aerial views from Seattle Public Schools show the west and south sides, and a webcam provides current views of the north-facing side.[1]

In addition to educational infrastructure, major transportation projects are underway. The Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) is resuming the Revive I-5 project in 2026, involving long-term lane reductions on northbound I-5 around the Ship Canal Bridge, starting as early as January 9, weather permitting. This is part of the largest highway preservation effort in the state.[2]

These projects highlight Seattle's commitment to improving public facilities and infrastructure, potentially creating jobs in construction and related fields. The Alki rebuild, for example, has involved significant work including framing and slab pours, as noted in ongoing updates.[3]

Looking ahead, the completion of Alki Elementary will enhance local education resources, while the I-5 work aims to preserve critical transportation links, contributing to the city's growth and connectivity.
