Elon Musk's artificial intelligence startup xAI is investing more than $20 billion to build a data center in Southaven, Mississippi. State Governor Tate Reeves announced the project, describing it as the largest corporate investment in Mississippi's history. The initiative comes amid a boom in generative AI, driving demand for increased computing power.[1]

The facility is expected to include a data center and power plant, marking the fifth data center complex in the state. Elon Musk praised the execution speed, noting gratitude to Governor Reeves for support in building at 'warp speed.'[2]

This investment is part of xAI's expansion plans to enhance its competitive edge against companies like OpenAI and Anthropic. The data center, named MACROHARDRR, is slated to begin operations in February 2026.[3]

The project is anticipated to create jobs and stimulate economic growth in the region, potentially attracting further tech investments to Mississippi.
